I have three pictures hanging on the wall
made by Ib Spang Olsen -
actually its drawings.
The main feature is ships – wooden ships
and time is essentially in these three drawings.
The youngest is the year 1620 -
picturing Jens Munk leaving Hudson Bay with one of two ships – the good ship “Lamprenen manning only with three sailors – no more nor less.
Leaving, not only Hudson Bay, but also the good ship “Enhiøringen and 58 dead crewmembers of the two ships.
It was a failure searching the North West Passage to find China and India.
The year 1492 is well know – this drawing show Columbus on the bridge showing the way and he had a great success in reaching America or at least the middle part, but he failed to reach India which was the plan.
The oldest of the three drawings, speaking of events, this ship embarked from Brattahlid, Greenland, about the year 1000.
Leif den lykkelige went on an ekspedition not to find India but to find new lands.
He found “Hellulandâ€? (Baffin island), “Marklandâ€? (Labrador) and “Vinlandâ€? (New Foundland). They settle down in Vinland now called L’Anse aux Meadows, New Foundland.
The Vikings lived in Brattahlid, Greenland until about 1500, there whereabouts unknown after that.
