Hundred things about .. me, I think
Posted by ashthor on December 23, 2006
- Hundred things about Me, I think
- Well, I’m born Anno Domini 1951
- in the month of May, which is a rather nice month to be born in
- and I happen to be born in The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Denmark,
now if it had been in the Hebrew community then it would the year 5711 or 1370 A.H. (Anno Hegira) in the Islamic community, - but I was born in The Peoples Church of Denmark, and I’m baptise on the island of Samsoe.
- From my fifth to twelfth year I made Toender (south Jutland) uncertain.
- Hereafter it has been in the middle of Jutland in Brande.
- Apprentice – Mason
- Military service, let’s make it clear I took the easy way;
ground-based anti-aircraft batteries at Karup Airbase. Main task: sitting in an underground fortress and keep the contact between the anti-aircraft batteries. - Secondary task was as gunner on such a anti-aircraft battery and frankly they were old if the enemy came we had to say please don’t fly faster than 800 km/hour otherwise we had no chance to hit them.
- well, that year vent quickly past
- Music there is no way getting around it
- the first LP (long play record yes there was no CD at the time) was The Beatles ‘Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band’, actually I had to buy it twice (I wear the first one out)
- I just recently bought CD version of Sgt. Peppers
- After The Beatles it was Crimson King, The Moody Blues Band, Yes, Hawkwind
- On a tour to London, UK, my buddy and I was extremely lucky and got hold of two stand up tickets to a Genesis concert.
- It was the first concert without Peter Gabriel, and Phil Collins was the front figure.
- This concert was the start of a rather large collection of Genesis records.
- It’s unavoidable to mention Pink Floyd I’m great fan of that band.
- In the 1980′ies another great event start to play a role in my musical life: Toender Festival.
- Toender Festival is jazz and folk music, and it’s a huge one.
- Some of the participations was Arlo Guthrie, Ar Log, Hannes Wader, Niels Hausgaard, Chieftains, The Dubliners, Alex Campbell, The McCalmans
- And I got a special contact to Iain McKintosh, Hamish Imlach, Allan Taylor, Philip Shackleton and Dougie Maclean, I manage too drag them to my home town to show them off.
- I still remember intense concerts with Holly Near in Toender.
- A few years I was working, with others of course, in a cinema which we called ‘Keaton Cinema’.
- We had Danish films and others like Moliere, The Deer Hunter, Stalker, One flew over the kuku nest, Heaven’s Gate, The Sound of Music, The Fog and Humphrey Bogart movies.
- I was doing a little with offset printing (Ashi Offset) and started a publishing firm called “Forlaget Ravnebanneret” (The Raven banner) thinking of the old viking banner.
- From 1978 to 1984 I wrote and printed several Fanzine (Fan Magazine) subject Science Fiction.
- Around about this time there came some change
- My one and only found me, and this is actually the right word ‘found me’.
- My son came in 1985 AD
- My daughter in 1987 AD
- And our youngest daughter came in 1992 AD.
- And no more!
- As family we have moved four times latest June 2006
- I mentioned music before Dire Straight came along with my son
- Later came Anne Linnet, Sebastian, Dodo, TV2 and De Nattergale (Danish artist I know).
- Now and in these days it’s Enya, Dido, Katie Melue, Cher, Shania Twain
- And I’m a great fan of Shakira, especially in Spanish
- not that I understand Spanish, but word has music in it self and made yet another tune.
- One thing I always have done is reading
- All the good classic boys action books (mostly Danish)
- It was Jules Verne who introduced me to the Science Fiction world
- I have about 400 science fiction books on my shelves
- I also take a good deal of interest in Maya culture, old Egypt culture
- latest reading was Dan Brown, now I have taken the ‘Whirlwind’ by James Clavell up again
- Yes I have read all my books more than ones
- Especially Frank Herberts epic story about ‘Dune’ (all 6 of them).
- Do you know how much laundry a family with 5 members produces?
- I have a feeling that our washing machine runs constantly.
- It’s time to introduce member 6 of our family
- Cassie, a German Sheppard Dog , it’s a grey Alsatian but all black, a lovely she-dog.
- In the radio Procal Harum: A whiter shade of pale
- this is going to be a description of maybe to much.
- I’m a bit of vestjyde (local inhabitant of western Jutland) and normal keep people at three feet distance
- Now before anyone thinks (from the poems) that Cassie is my dog, oh it is, but Cassie is foremost my wifes dog, they are a trainee team, and they are good at it.
- I have now lived in this town for about 43 years, and I probably will stay here for the remaining of my life.
- From here we have been on holiday in France, Germany, Sweden but mostly in the Czech Republic.
- I’m not the one that buy a computer ready to work, I’m the one who build it of pieces then you know what you got and the blame for not working lies right where one can do something about it.
- Now a days I use mostly Firefox as browser and Incridimail as emailclient.
- Genealogy is another great interest.
- Found family root in Sweden, Germany, Australia and US.
- At this point I think I should stop.
- Maybe another time other subjects.
- a poem would though be nice so here it is, a translation of an oldie:
- The footprint you made
- when you were born
- the ocean has washed it away
- Your voice went with the wind
- Love, your women got it.
- And time took your life.
- When you died
- you had nothing left,
- every thing that was ever given you
- you have given away
- you came with nothing
- you leave with nothing
- circle in circle
- A hundred things about me or there about
- there are things unsaid, I know,
- let the poems speak in muffled voices
- for now – Ashi

It’s late now, so I’m going to come back and read this — looks interesting.
Merry Christmas! Tell, for me, the same to your mother.

How interesting! You’re a little older than I thought you were.
I love Pink Floyd and Phil Collins, too. Also I’ve been in Germany and France (and the Czech Republic for a couple of minutes – long story).
You are one interesting person!

I, too, am a latecomer. This was listed as a related link on one of the blogs I read regularly.
But anyways, that’s beautiful writing!
Yes, I do know how much laundry a family of 5 produces! Haha we have 6 people in ours
And I, too, have read all the books on my shelf at home more than once!
Also, you mention that you like Egyptian mythology: have you ever seen Stargate SG-1?
ashthor said

Hello, nice read. I too have bought two copies of Sgt. Pepper’s, both on CD though. Today I was having a crappy day and Lovely Rita came on the satellite radio and immediately made me feel better. Just stumbled into this blog, but think I might stay and see what else you have. Happy trails.

I have been watching the road for new stuff from you. You must go on and do more. Regular Blogs are necessary and a few do well. But yours is the refreshing alternative that we need a lot more of. I try satire on the mundane distraction of politics and other melancholy and malaise in daily life but you are taking us to look into those small realities that make life worth living.
